Ann Rydgren

Photo: Ann Rydgren Ann Rydgren is a longtime member of the Delaware Audubon Society. She is currently the Publications Chairperson and is a past president of Delaware Audubon. She has also led many other chapter efforts, including education, membership, Adopt-A-Highway, and the Birdathon. These varied activities reflect Ann's standing as a generalist, interested in all aspects of our natural world.

Ann is currently editor of our award-winning newsletter, and is charge of the Important Bird Area (IBA) program. In 2002, Ann received Delaware Audubon's annual Conservation Award.

Ann says that it is most important to be informed and involved. "Everyone needs to be informed about issues, but to be informed is only half the equation. We must act to protect ourselves. Delaware Audubon should be devoted to bringing information to its members and encouraging them to act. We must never allow ourselves to be disenfranchised by apathy or political design. We must all pay attention to the "fine print." There is an old truism, "The problem with the environment is not entirely with wildlife or pollution; the problem is with ourselves."

Ann has lived in Delaware most of her life. She and her husband, Don, live in Wilmington. They have three grown sons and five grandchildren. In her spare time, Ann enjoys nature study, birding, and recycling "treasures" from flea markets. "I am a "tool nut." To me, a well-made tool is a work of art."
